SIMPLE IDEAS - Baking Soda

Baking soda is a diverse product for household use. It is a fairly inexpensive alternative to many household products. Over the past 3 decades I have discovered that our personal care products can be toxic and the cleaning products purchased in the stores are very toxic! Partner this with the high expense of the products (mentioned above) and in walks baking soda!


Baking soda is a great alternative to cleaning your home and carries many health benefits as well for the whole family. When using this product as a cleanser, it is quite acceptable to use the cheaper versions of baking soda on the market which contain small amounts of aluminum. It is highly recommended to spend the extra money on 100% pure natural baking soda for personal care products or ingesting into your body.


Here are some ideas for replacing your toxic household cleaners with baking soda:

  • scrub the bathtub, shower, sink and toilet

  • sprinkle in kitty litter and mix thoroughly

  • place a box in the refrigerator

  • place a box in closets

  • use in the dishwasher - 1 tbsp with a bit of dish soap

  • sprinkle in drains - pour in a cup of white vinegar wait and run hot water

  • sprinkle in shoes and boots to deodorize to deodorize

  • sprinkle on cutting boards and run hot water to rinse

  • sprinkle lightly on carpets and mattresses - vacuum

  • extinguish grease fires


Here are some ideas for replacing toxic personal care products with baking soda:

  • toothpaste recipe (mix with coconut oil)

  • deodorant (rub on armpits in shower and rinse off)

  • shampoo (mix 1 tbsp to a cup of water in a squeeze bottle to wash hair)

  • bath to relieve itch from bug bites or sunburn (approximately 1 cup)

  • use in shower as a skin exfoliate
