Common Nettle Salve is a powerful pain reliever. It is made by harvesting the Nettle plant that grows in the wild here in Ontario. When harvesting the plant it is recommended to wear long sleeves with gloves because it is prickly and causes itchy/painful skin blisters.
Feel free to complete your own research on this plant, it can be used for tea and making this salve as follows:
Harvest the plant by cutting the stems and hanging them to dry for as long as required. I always make sure the leaves are crispy dry before using in the receipt
Using a coffee grinder, grind the leaves to powder
Place the powder on a clean baking sheet (or use parchment paper on the baking sheet), set the temperature to 200 degree Fahrenheit and back for 1 1/2 hours
Using a double broiler, melt organic coconut oil and add the nettle powder; cooking time is 4 to 8 hours (you can use your instinct for the amount of powder required in the oil - do you want mild or strong pain relief?)
Let cool enough to handle the ingredients, but do not let it cool to the point solidifying
Using cheese cloth, strain the powder/oil and throw the wet powder away
Using a measuring cup, return the liquid to the double broiler making note of how many cups you have of the nettle infused oil
For every cup of the nettle infused oil add:
1/3 cup olive oil
1/3 cup beeswax
1/3 cup Shea butter (optional)
Heat all the ingredients until melted, let cool (do not solidify) and put in jars
Enjoy!
